Tata Motors Design Head Pratap Bose resigned from the job. The reasons behind the following decision are not clear yet. Martin Uhlarik has been appointed as the new Global Design Head
If you are an auto enthusiast then the name of Pratap Bose is not new to your ears. The name Pratap bose is a very famous name in the automobile sector. He is considered the architect behind the design of new-age TATA cars.
Who is Pratap Bose?
Born in 1975 in Mumbai. Pratap graduated in industrial design from the national institute of design (NID) in 1998. His love for car design and development started when he saw Mercedes Benz 280 SEL outside the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai.
Pratap Bose got a scholarship from the Inlaks foundation and joined the royal college of arts in the U.K for post-graduation.
Pratap Bose career
While pursuing graduation Pratap worked at Tata motors Pune for his 8 weeks summer internship. It was first time when he saw Mr Ratan Tata for the first time. He was coming to the Plant to review the design of Tata Indica which was being flown from Italy.
After completing graduation from NID, Pratap Bose didn’t get a job at Tata Motors. But he got an offer from Piaggio, Italy who was planning to launch their two-wheelers in the Indian Market. He went to Italy to understand the design and development process.
A stay which was meant for six months extended to two and a half year-long work. Because the Piaggio appointed him as a senior designer. He spent two years in the Royal College of arts and also completed his post-graduation in design and arts in 2003.
He applied at Tata motors but didn’t get the job as the automobile industry was going through a rough patch. But he got a job offer from Mitsubishi, Japan. Back then, Mitsubishi was working in partnership with Daimler Chrysler, and soon they split up. Pratap followed his boss Mr Olivier Boulay who was the vice president of Mercedez Benz advanced design Center in Japan.
Pratap Bose Journey at Tata Motors
In 2006 Pratap Bose and Olivier visited New Delhi to speak at CII conference. During the post-event dinner, Pratap approached Mr Ravi Kant managing director of Tata Motors and expressed his desire to work at Tata Motors. In a few months, he received mail from Mr Kant office where he was invited to flew to Bombay to Meet Mr Ratan Tata.
At the age of 31, Pratap was sitting with Mr Ratan Tata in an office. In a meeting of 30 minutes, he explained the pros and cons of car designs that need to be taken care of. And how can help them get better? Later in the evening, Ratan Tata offered him to work for Tata Motors at their tech centre in the U.K.
Pratap Bose Journey with Tata Motors started in 2007, And in the year 2011, he has been appointed as the Head of designs.
