New Delhi, To further strengthen electronic toll collection, the GOI on Saturday said it has made use of FASTag mandatory for all four-wheelers including old vehicles
The ministry of road transport and highways has issued a notification for the promotion of digital and IT-based payment of fees through FASTags.
FASTag is a prepaid tag that enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets the vehicle pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction
As per the latest guidelines making FASTag mandatory to be available by January 1, 2021, in old vehicles also which means the M and N Catagory (four-wheelers) of vehicles the vehicles which are sold before 1st December 2017 its necessary for them to carry FASTags in all such vehicles, GOI has done necessary changes in CMVR, 1989″, the Ministry of road transport and highway (MoRTH) said in a statement.
It is further mandated that the renewal of fitness certificates of motor vehicles shall be done only after the installation of FASTags for the transport vehicles, further the vehicles holding national permit the fitment of FASTag has been mandated since October 1, 2019,” the statement said.
The government also said that a valid fastag is mandatory for getting 3rd party insurance through an amendment in FORM 51 (Certificate of Insurance) wherein the details of FASTag ID shall be captured, this shall be applicated W.E.F 1st April 2021
Govt has made arrangements to ensure sufficient availability of FASTags both through physical and online modes so that citizens can get them within 02 months of a timeline as per their convenience
The national electronic toll collection program is been implemented across pan India for seems less collection of toll fees and for reducing traffic using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology
