Jagdish joined Maruti in July 1993, as the marketing director and worked on to become Managing director. The first time he joined Maruti as a government nominee. And then in May 2009, as a nominee from Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC). The former director of Maruti Udyog passed away on 26th April 2021 due to cardiac arrest.

Jagdish Khattar Experience

Before joining Maruti Udyog. Jagadish Khattar was an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer. He is considered one of the automobile pioneers who helped Maruti Suzuki to reach the level of success. With more than 37 years of experience, he has overseen a restructuring of the company. While facing increased competition caused by foreign car players in the domestic market.

After leaving Maruti Suzuki, Jagdish Khattar turned into an entrepreneur. And decided to set up independent pan India multi-brand sales and service network in the automobile sector. In the year 2008, Jagdish launched his next venture Carnation Auto. With the aim of developing a multi-brand automobile sales and service network.

When it comes to managing your own startup. Despite coming from an entrepreneurial background. Jagdish made several strategic errors, he failed to calculate the operational costs.

Expensive properties were taken on rent for running the workshops which affected the operational cost. The auto companies were not interested to see their cars at multi-brand workshops. Neither they were interested in sharing their parts.

Jagdish Khattar Background

Jagdish belonged to a family of entrepreneurs who set up an electricity and supply company in Dear Ismail Khan (Now in Pakistan) before the partition.

Khattar Completed his Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from Sr. Stephen’s College, Delhi and LLB from Delhi University. post studies he joined Indian Administrative Services.
